Definition

recount text is a text that retells events or events in the past. The story can be in the form of action or activity before someone writes the text. Without realizing it, we must often tell past experiences in everyday life. For example, telling about vacation activities.

The Purpose of Recount Text

The purpose of recount text is to entertain or inform. In terms of social function, recount text is telling an experience or event that happened in the past with the aim of entertaining the reader.

Generic Structure of Recount Text

In writing recount text, you must pay attention to the following structure (generic structure of recount text):

1. Orientation

This section contains the introduction of characters, time and place of events

2. Series of events

This section contains a series of events or events that are told sequentially.

3. Re-orientation

This closing section contains a summary of the incident or events. The author also includes opinions and impressions of the incident or event.

Types of Recount Text

1. Personal Accounts

Personal recount text is a type of text that aims to tell about the author's personal experiences. Personal recount is the most common type that is often found in recount writing.

2. Factual Recount

Factual recount text is a story to present reports related to events that occurred based on facts (actually happened).

So, this is not fixated on personal events, it could also be the events of other people. An example is a police report.

3. Imaginative Recount

Imaginative recount is a text that is usually used by someone as a story from an imaginative event that is experienced by someone. For example, recount text which tells the author's experience about the fantasy he got from a dream.

4. Historical Accounts

Historical recount is a story whose contents tell historical events. In essence, this text is a historical story in English.

5. Procedural Recount

Procedure text is a text whose contents describe how something can be made or used through a series of steps.

Example of imaginative text

My Holiday

Orientation: Last week I went to Mount Bromo. I stayed at my friend’s house in Probolinggo, East Java. The house has a big garden with colorful flowers and a small pool.

Series of events: In the morning, my friend and I saw Mount Batok. The scenery was very beautiful. We rode on horseback. It was scary, but it was fun. Then, we went to get a closer look at the mountain . We took pictures of the beautiful scenery there. After that, we took a rest and had lunch under a big tree. Before we got home, we went to the zoo at Wonokromo. We went home in the afternoon.

Reorientation: We were very tired. However, I think it was really fun to have a holiday like this. I hope my next holiday will be more interesting.
